Barra Woodview

The Cottage

Barra Woodview is a four-bedroom holiday home sleeping up to eight, with a sitting room that faces west so you can watch the sun set over the Minch without getting up from the sofa. The kitchen is properly equipped — not a “one pan and a can opener” situation — and the open fire draws beautifully, which matters more than you’d think in October.

Sleeping eight across four bedrooms

There’s a comfortable double, a triple room, a single, and a bright corner suite, so families and groups can spread out. Beds are made up with fresh linen for your arrival, and there’s a travel cot and highchair available on request for little ones.

Main Double Bedroom

The main double: a bright, calm room with a comfortable queen bed and — the real luxury for a self-catering week — two full-height built-in wardrobes with plenty of room for suitcases and unpacked clothes. Twin reading lamps built into the headboard, garden view, warm wood floor. The bedside lamps have USB-A and USB-C charging built in, so phones charge where you sleep.

Double Bedroom 2

A softly-lit second double looking onto the garden. A queen bed with a wide headboard shelf and warm bedside lamps, a traditional cottage dresser with plenty of drawer space, and wooden floors throughout. The bedside lamps have USB-A and USB-C charging built in, so phones charge where you sleep.

Triple Room

A triple room with a solid pine bunk bed and a separate single alongside, sleeping three. Bright, straightforward and made for kids or friends travelling together — wooden flooring throughout, a window looking out to the back garden and Heaval, and the same bedside lamps as the other rooms, with USB-A and USB-C charging built in. A double wardrobe and a single wardrobe give plenty of storage, with room to hang clothes and stow suitcases.

Spacious Living Room

A large corner suite, two armchairs and two footstools gives everyone somewhere to sit. The open fireplace is the heart of the room, and a large window looks out over the wood to the Minch beyond with a 65” OLED 4K HDR Smart TV for the big movie night together.

Main Shower Room

A modern shower room, recently refitted. Generous walk-in shower with a 1500 × 800mm tray — plenty of room to move — powered by a Mira Sport Max Airboost 10.8kW dual-head electric shower for strong pressure and instant hot water. Wide white basin over a black vanity with drawer storage, and an LED-lit mirror cabinet above.

Porch Shower Room

A second, more compact shower room off the porch — WC, pedestal basin and a standard 6kW electric shower. Useful when the main shower’s in use, or when someone just doesn’t want to wait.

Pet-friendly, with room to roam

Barra Woodview is dog-friendly — and dogs do well here. The croft in front of the house is fully fenced, ideal for a morning run and a stretch of the legs before breakfast. In the lower corner you’ll find a wooden bench — a fine spot to sit and listen to the birdsong, look up to Heaval or out to the Minch, while your dog runs free and has a good sniff about.

Behind the house, the upper croft is fenced too. In 2021 and 2022 we planted over 4,000 native saplings there — alder, downy birch, eared willow, sessile oak and rowan — still small, but growing year by year. Your dog can roam free among them while you can get the chance to take in a breathtaking sunrise.

And when you fancy going further afield, Barra is full of dog walks — beaches, hill paths and machair — none more than fifteen or twenty minutes from the door.
